A Thought from the Shower

I need to invent a waterproof notetaking system because I am constantly contemplating various aspects of my life and life in general while showering. No tv, no radio, no noise at all but the water leaves much to thinking. So my thought this morning was that I should have gotten Wireless internet much sooner. And from that thought I began to think about modern day conviences and the progression of technology.

Trying to remember exactly when I signed up for a Facebook account, remembering that it was after I graduated from college therefore could not get an account at the time, and I can't imagine life without it now! How did I possibly know what my friends were up to, how they have changed since college (even High School) who they are dating... And before there was Facebook, Myspace was keeping us informed and "in the loop", although both come with some misguidance and misrepresentation of 'self' . I began to recall life before the websites were being used. I remember sitting at my little desk in South Tower or Preston on my laptop (that would perhaps have been better served as a boat anchor) and "chatting" with friends right down the hall or checking to see their latest "buddy profile" updates. Archaic!!! But even before staying up all night chatting on AOL, there was personal contact...or something resembling human contact; the cell phone. I remember my BAG PHONE that was also called a CAR PHONE that I carried in the console area of my truck. I also remember my parents telling me specifically to use the phone sparingly as well as to make sure that I pulled off to the side of the road before making calls. Can you even imagine?!?!? Of course I was about 17 when I recieved my first cell phone for emergency usage only! Currently my 12 year old buddy (that I babysat since infancy) owns her own LG flip phone. I kid you not, it is way nicer than my cell phone!
The same night that I noticed this little buddy calling her boyfriend on this phone...which in itself is funny, my parents friends began to discuss old technology such as "Party Lines" and Heaven forbid...getting up to turn the channel on the TV.
And then there is email. It is my responsibility as an educator to not only teach for 90 minute blocks but check my email about every 30 minutes just in case there are any "urgent, red flagged" messages, or requests I may miss if I otherwise relied on human to human contact.
As I watch Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, I consider a time when letters were sent (love letters even) and lovely parties were places for people to get to know each other. Actual communication in person, understanding one's tone and inflection. Laughing and dancing.
I do wonder what the next innovation means of communication will be and I propose a New School Year's Resolution to communicate better with my friends and family. In thus, I'd like to have more get togethers, lunch dates and send more written letters. Ironic, considering that I am proposing this while blogging!
I intend to have a Wii party sometime soon as well as an Olympic Party. I will get the details later, but you are invited...as long as you leave your cell phone at home ;)

Funny Cat

I just had to post again to tell a funny Ricky story.
I was reading Emily's blog today and Mr. Ricky was (of course) walking around on the table like a bad cat checking things out. I have seen him stalk flies and Lucy's tail and even stare at lady bugs flying outside. As I was scrolling up and down the page on the computer screen, I noticed that he was getting too close to the screen blocking my view of it. He began to swat at the picture so I decided to mess with him a bit (which by the way is the best part about having a cat!!!) and he was like manic about swating the scrolling words on the screen! Hahahaha! If I had a video of it, it would have surely been sent to AFHV! Perhaps that may just happen?!?!?!

Typical Summer Day

It is a seemingly usual day and yes I am beginning to become a little bored, ready for school to actually start back. Strange!

All I really did today was make some rocking enchiladas! Chris entitled them the "Hot Mama Enchiladas" because they were quite spicy! mmmm.... I'll post the recipe (this is the 2 person version):
-2 cups of cooked chicken
-1 can of cream of chicken soup
-1 8oz. sour cream
-1 8oz. block cheddar cheese (grate)
- 1 8oz. block monterrey jack cheese (grate)
-5-8 regular flour tortillas
-1 can Ro-tel diced tomatoes and green chiles
- 1 small can of green chiles
-1 small can of sliced black olives
- chopped cilantro to taste
-1/2 tsp. red pepper
-1/2 tsp. cumin
- a dash of crushed red pepper (this spices it up)

1. Spray 9"x13" casserole with Pam
2. Cook chicken and cut into small pieces
3. Mix chicken with soup, sour cream, half of each cheeses, Ro-tell and seasonings.
4. Dip spoonfuls of mixture into each tortilla
5. Roll up and place into casserole dish
6. Put leftover mixture and rest of cheese on top of the enchilada
7. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

mmmmm! Also, a little side note: we had Lo Tengo wine with the meal and I rate it as a 3 star wine out of 5...eh okay.

Here We Go Again!

Inspired and motivated once again by a good friend to begin 2 things tonight that I have not done in a while; Run and Write!

I am not sure which is going to be the biggest challenge in the next few weeks and months, seeing as how (thanks to this wonderful friend) have been convinced to train for a half-marathon. I figured that I can write about these experiences as well as any other random thoughts that pop into my head.

I once was a serious journal writer, but of course no one really read those entries unless my brother would sneek into my room and read the juicy details of my life...I'm sure that either he did no such thing or that life wasn't as interesting as I had thought it was.

Well, I do not believe that much has changed, so if you are reading this then you must either like me or be slightly bored at work?!?!?
Thanks for reading! And please continue to procrastinate! I know you are!

So, in this first post I basically wanted to explain why I chose the title that I did as well as give a basic overview of my intriguing life. "Wheels Turn" was inspired by my friend's blog title using her last name. I thought that it could be a little double entendre so to speak, symbolizing that the proverbial wheels in my head are obviously turning on some thought seeing as how I am writing and all! Also I thought it made sense in the running aspect. I am getting back at the running thing, so my wheels are turning on the pavement every couple of days. OH oh yeah....also I kind of think that it is 'my turn' in life. My turn to get healthier, get more creative, become a better teacher and perhaps a few things in life will be changing soon too?!?! It is "Wheel's Turn" as well!
